All budgets are more than adequately catered for when it comes to accommodation in Fortaleza. If you are simply coming to Fortaleza for its nightlife, then look for hotels in the Praia de Iracema (Iracema Beach) area, while if you are a family wishing to stay close to the best beaches, then the lodging near the Praia Meireles (Meireles Beach) will certainly not disappoint when it comes to location.

As with much of Brazil, Fortaleza hotels tend to be at their busiest in late December and January, when demand is high - and so are the prices! In quieter months, such as March to May, and again between September and November, you will find that accommodation is considerably cheaper, with discounts of 25 percent upwards being relatively easy to obtain.

Where to Stay

Budget travellers should note that there are a number of cheap hotels within the city centre, although at nighttime, this part of Fortaleza can be quite noisy and not especially appealing. Worth considering is the cheap accommodation along the Avenida Dom Manuel, home of the Backpackers Ceará youth hostel, while those with their own set of wheels should think about staying next to the Praia do Futuro, where ocean views await.

More desirable lodging is based along the strip around the Praia de Iracema, on roads such as the Avenida Almirante Barroso. It is here where the highly recommended Maredomus Hotel resides - just a ten-minute walk from Iracema. Nearby and next to Meireles Beach, the Avenida Beira Mar features a further selection of accommodation, with popular choices including the Quality Hotel Fortaleza, which is frequently sold out. If you prefer well-known hotel chains, then the Holiday Inn Fortaleza is likely to be of interest and stands on the Avenida Historiador Raimundo Girao, where it overlooks the beachfront.

Since there is so much competition between hotels around the beaches of Fortaleza, some of the more upmarket hotels are only slightly more expensive than mid-range accommodation choices. Overlooking Meireles Beach, the Othon Palace on the Avenida Beira Mar is usually in demand and known for its external panoramic elevator. Nearby, the Gran Marquise Hotel boasts a pool on its top floor, with stunning views of the adjacent Praia do Mucuripe (Mucuripe Beach).
